Ian Overton is an environmental scientist and sustainability leader with a distinguished career spanning international research, public policy, and applied science. He is the Director of Water Data Science and the Country Manager for Sri Lanka at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), where his work contributes to advancing sustainable water management and development outcomes in diverse global contexts. Previously, Ian has held senior leadership and scientific roles at Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and served as Chief Executive of Green Industries SA, where he led initiatives supporting circular economy development, climate action, and low-carbon transitions. He holds a PhD and an MBA, is an Affiliate Professor at the University of Adelaide, and brings a strong interdisciplinary perspective that bridges science, policy, and practice in addressing complex environmental and sustainability challenges.
