Over 30 years of professional experience – of which 20 years has been in banking, covering diverse areas – Consumer and Business Banking, Operations, Technology including oversea assignments in Australia and Malaysia and short stint in Life Insurance. Currently serves as Chief Executive Officer and Country Head of Maybank Cambodia, a wholly owned subsidiary of Maybank Bank Group, the largest company in Malaysia and one of the top 4 regional banks in ASEAN. His earlier experience was in the development field with UN Agencies and USAID.

He has also actively involved in the banking industry and got elected as Chairman of Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC) since March 2024. In addition, he is a Board Director of Institute of Banking and Finance (IBF) and Credit Bureau Holding Cambodia (CBHC).

Mr. Sophoan holds Master of Laws from National University of Singapore (NUS) as an ASEAN Fellow and a graduate of the Executive Leadership Programs at INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France and Institute of Management Development (IMD). He is a Chartered Banker, Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB).
